- Cloud types, Acc: a bank of classic Altocumulus Castellanus cloud type, aided by midday heating, is sprouting large, tall towers. These elevated convective clouds grow very slowly because they are not supported by thermals rising from near the ground, and so must generate their buoyancy internally. Such high-based cumuliform Acc clouds, sometimes nicknamed Accas, are good predictors of afternoon thunderstorms.
