- A boiling cloud with rare cloud-to-air lightning filament air discharge
- L951489Z
- A boiling cloud mass emits light from many cloud flashes (intracloud lightning) within it, and a rare cloud-to-air lightning filament (air discharge) exits into the clear sky. The thickest cloud parts appear darkest because they block all of the light from within. By comparison, the brightest parts are in spaces between towers or holes in the cloud. The storm crown sparks continuously from the rapid ionization in the outrageous rate of growth of the rising towers.
