- This circular Cumulonimbus shows the vertical structure of a storm
- W022600Z
- The vertical structure of a storm is best seen at a distance. Here, a circular Cumulonimbus cloud has a bright overshooting top protruding above a gray anvil. The anvil is not as bright because its edge extends horizontally toward the sunlight. Below the curved, sloped anvil surface is the storm's brighter, new updraft towers rising into it. Other, lower but closer clouds block much of the background storm.
