- A storm cloud pushes out an anvil flange at an inversion
- W953206Z
- A powerful boiling storm cloud over a farm pond. The thunderstorm bank has an unusual skirt or rim of darker cloud around the upper parts. This is an anvil flange where some of the rising air within the storm has pushed outward at an inversion and become frozen and soft in appearance. It is a horizontal flange into the clear sky (not easy to distinguish in the compressed view) and thus appears shaded and darker.
