- Process of anvil cloud formation: early convection over mountains
- W010617Z
- The process of anvil cloud formation. Early convection over mountains is producing thin, tall clouds in a dry air mass. Towers reach high enough to have their tops freeze into small anvil plumes. Bases evaporate easily but the Cirrus patches are slower to disperse, so they survive downwind as small orphan anvil reminders of their origins.
