- Thunderstorm cloud survival and persistence: storm environment
- W021788S
- Thunderstorm cloud survival and persistence. To sustain a severe storm, it needs its own undisturbed environment away from other storms. Here, one storm fills the sky behind (dark edge overhead) while another is about 70 miles away. It has a long anvil indicating an updraft of uniform strength and persistence, a necessity for severity. Note the crown is higher where air overshoots the stable layer briefly.
