- The flanking line on a supercell severe storm
- W000559Z
- The flanking line is a straight baseline extending away from the active rain and updraft region of a supercell severe storm, usually to the south or west. Air converges and flows along it into the storm. It has a dark, continuous base but separate towers above. The towers may grow large but more often are held in check by the flow or subsidence around the storm.
