- A classic supercell storm shapes and controls flow and clouds
- W021619S
- Wide view shows how a classic supercell storm shapes and controls the wind field flow and clouds around it. The rotating updraft at left has a very low, large wall cloud below it. Above this are stacked layers of cloud showing the mesocyclone rotation. Air from the rain flowing toward the updraft area condenses as a thin cloud called a “beaver tail”, lower right. All parts of a supercell operate together smoothly and quickly.
