- Early convection (towering clouds) in pre-storm conditions
- W011022S
- Early convection in pre-storm conditions. Before the atmosphere is ready to spawn a storm, convective towers struggle with weak buoyancy (slow updrafts), low tops (not enough heat), detaching tops (vertical wind shear) and erosion of the cloud by evaporation (too much dry air aloft). Bases are high and tops low as these dry clouds make their first attempts to establish a larger updraft.
