- W993473Z
- A thick sheet of Velum, which began as Pileus, is stacked in numerous blended layers above a storm. Perspective has compressed the view, but the apparent base is a little closer than the top (staggered forward) and the brightest bands are where light reflects from more vertical surfaces. There’s a deep shadow in the dark space below it. Velum is a Cumulonimbus accessory cloud in the original WMO Cloud Classification System which is both rare and rarely referred to these days.
