- A wall cloud steps down from the storm base to form a pedestal cloud
- W011106Z
- The inflow axis leading up to a high-based severe storm at right has a small, circular cloud under it. This is a wall cloud with several tiers or concentric layers below the storm base. Such a lowering which steps down from the main base but remains high is sometimes called a pedestal cloud. Despite the cloudiness, the sky has a look of innocence to it with nothing obviously threatening. However, the rotating updraft feeds large hailstones falling nearby.
