- This hybrid supercell is building in dry but very unstable air
- W001582Z
- This storm cloud is a supercell because, despite its higher base and irregular anvil, it has a rotating updraft feeding a steady stream of air upward. Warm air enters lower left, rises abruptly above the short base, then flares out as a series of closely-spaced anvil flanges. The storm is a hybrid in structure between the classic and low-precipitation supercell types. It occurs most often in the Northern Plains with dry but very unstable conditions and high vertical wind shear.
