- Clouds: something old, something new. Convective clouds are brightest when newly formed because that is when they are filled with many fine droplets which reflect light best. A new single-cell storm at right contrasts with the darker, aging anvil and shower at left, which has fewer, larger droplets and ice crystals being eroded by evaporation.
