- Storm survival: how one storm affects another. A large, organized storm at left sends an overspreading anvil north, filled with mamma and other underside detail in the golden sunset. Another storm at right tries to grow, but remains thin and weaker because it is drawing on air that has been cooled and dried slightly by downdrafts from the larger storm upwind. The result is a stunted cell with weak updrafts starved for fuel.
