- Wind shear and evaporation in weak convective towers
- W020390Z
- Wind shear and evaporation. Weak convection forms soft, shapely clouds in moist, unstable air. Towers rise to a level where winds are lighter, causing tops to hang back while lower parts move on to the left. Each tower’s upper parts evaporate and freeze as an anvil wing in the drier air aloft. The denser, recent clouds are bright while old ones appear thin and pale.
