- Outside of thunderstorms, the sky is rarely completely filled with black clouds. Here, high anvils deepen the shading over a very thick sheet of closely packed Altocumulus Castellanus strips forming within a zone of widespread lifting of air under cooling aloft. Below is a tube of Stratocumulus moving the opposite way in cool outflow from recent rains.
