- Clouds in vertical wind shear. Castellated convection forms along an outflow boundary. The towers are stretched by shear from the speed difference between the base and top. The shear here is partly from the base moving to the left and away, and from tops blowing right in stronger flow farther up. Either or both will create the same result.
