- Mammatus cloud with elongated pouches due to downward motion
- W011883S
- Mammatus cloud pouches in the pure light of late day. The mamma are slightly tilted and elongated to the left because the sinking particles slide down the sloped anvil surface on descent. As with Cumulus tops, the sharpest outlines occur when the downward motion is new, or has had time to accumulate particles at the leading edge before they begin evaporating.
