- Water and ice particles falling out of an expansive anvil cloud
- W000874V
- The gentle perfection of a Mammatus sky creates a meditative mood. Water and ice particles are falling out of an expansive anvil cloud left over from earlier storms. As small groups of these particles sink, they form small bulges extending below the original base which give the sky a slightly ominous look. These mamma pouches, or Mammatus clouds are a harmless indicator of slow subsidence and evaporation as the storm’s anvil decays.
