- When convective towers become three or four times as tall as they are wide, as here, the definition of Cumulus Congestus is stretched to its limit. Very buoyant updrafts rocket skyward but remain narrow and evaporate quickly. These are castellated Cumulus towers (Cumulus Castellanus) seen commonly in tropical regions or in unstable, moist air masses with early convection.
