- Storm cloud visual clues. A storm to the east is visually divided into layers. At the top, a bright overshoot pokes above a softer, light gray anvil flange around the crown. Above the horizon is the storm's base and falling rain. Between these, a darker gray cloud seems to wrap itself around the middle of the storm. It is a separate Altocumulus sheet forming above the backside outflow of cool air.
