- Cloud type identification: high Stratocumulus and low Altocumulus
- W980333Z
- One of the more common problems in cloud type identification is differentiating between high Stratocumulus and low Altocumulus clouds. Usually the lower cloud type moves with the surface flow while the higher one arrives on the winds aloft. Here, a dense sheet of low Altocumulus Castellanus slides in with too many convecting elements for typical Stratocumulus this late in the day.
