- Competing forces under a storm cloud
- W993549S
- Competing forces under a storm cloud. Air from all sides of this severe storm converges and rises into a conspicuous wall cloud. The updraft axis is being pushed forward and undercut by strong outflow from the back and left (note shelf cloud lines caused by the push of air from the back) but the right edge of the lowering draws on moistened air coming back from anvil rain ahead of the storm. The rotating updraft tries to hold itself together while competing wind streams attempt to undercut and destroy it.
