- Rotating thunderstorm cloud example: supercell with rain and hail
- W021622Z
- Rotating thunderstorm cloud example. A supercell storm fills the view, with rain and hail at right and a large mesocyclone at left. The rotating structure is a tall cloud column with a lowered base. In this case the lowering occupies most of the storm's updraft base. Air enters at the bottom and spirals up and outward aloft, descending again downwind as precipitation and downdrafts.
