- Lenticular clouds due to a mountain standing lee wave pattern
- W825522Z
- Strong winds aloft crossing a mountain range have induced a standing lee wave pattern in the flow. Air rising within each wave crest condenses into a band of lenticular Altocumulus clouds. Three are evident here and remain stationary while the air flows through them. The waves parallel the mountains even if the flow crosses them diagonally as here (note elements at top).
