- Clouds over mountains show vertical wind shear
- W971495S
- Clouds are building over mountains. The top of a larger tower is sheared off as a thin layer of cloud. This skinny anvil plume is freezing and evaporating on its way downwind. With winds increasing with height (vertical wind shear) the cloud material is smeared forward from above, while its source remains stationary and continues to bubble up new cloud matter.
