- Thunderstorm cloud wannabe, a long anvil from successive updrafts
- W003481Z
- The great pretender: a thunderstorm cloud wannabe. An “almost storm” shows a long anvil cloud formed from successive updrafts that didn’t quite make it. Wind shear, a critical necessity for a good storm, plus instability are present, but moisture is sparse and updrafts are further inhibited by an inversion. With only a small change in low-level moisture or slight cooling aloft, this could have been a real storm.
