- Hailstorm: green light under storms due to filtering of light
- W912532Z
- An Arcus is developing from an outflow surge ahead of a hailstorm. A common misconception is that the green sky color is caused by the hail. Green light under storms is the result of the color spectrum being filtered by a deep layer of cloud and water molecules which remove red by scattering, leaving a slight green tinge to the light getting through at the ground.
