- Frontal clouds. A wall of convection rises along a cold front to the east. Storms form initially farther north, then propagate south along the axis. The linear nature of such forced development along an axis makes it hard for any one cell to remain independent and become severe. Here, the boiling clouds on this side of the thunderhead are along a west side outflow boundary.
