- From LCL to LFC, a supercell updraft builds upward
- W902108Z
- Wide view of an LP supercell with spinning updraft base. Cloud first forms at the regular lifted condensation level (LCL) at the base of the disc. The air is not yet unstable so the cloud must be forced up to the level of free convection (LFC} where it breaks free and rises quickly higher. In the zone between these two levels, the air remains stably stratified.
