- These tall, gray clouds evolve through four different cloud types. With an anvil overcast above, outflow from a nearby storm initially sent out a line of scud. As the elements grew into a more solid Stratocumulus cloud, latent heat release promoted updrafts in the unstable air mass, forming Stratocumulus Castellanus here on their way to becoming Cumulus Congestus later.
