- Multi-tiered orographic clouds over mountains
- W880224F
- This strange formation is multi-tiered orographic clouds over mountains. Most of it is Altocumulus but a lower Stratocumulus component exists too. Air ascends on approach and condenses in an arc over the high point. The higher layers slope more gently, causing cloud there to form farther away and thicken more gradually than lower down.
