- Flanking line of a severe storm with anvil backshear
- W852324S
- The flanking line base of a severe storm at left is shaded by a huge backsheared anvil. Air moves to the left in the mid-levels along the axis until it rises into the storm. Part of the air blows forward with the anvil there but a part also pushes back against the flow aloft to form the backshear. Three separate expanding updraft waves or layers are visible.
