- Hoarfrost coats weeds as frost and ice accumulates preferentially

- Hoarfrost coats weeds. The frost accrues on the side facing the wind as moist air is cooled to its dewpoint on contact with the colder plant, forming an ice deposition by sublimation. Once the process has begun, ice accumulates preferentially on the outermost parts which protrude farthest into the moist air flow, resulting in an increasingly knobbly, uneven surface with time.
