- Lake-effect snow squalls over water in winter
- W858107S
- Lake-effect snow squalls in winter: towering Cumulus clouds over open water in a calm, frigid arctic air mass. The clouds exhibit many of the same features as summer convection, but at a lower altitude. Low anvils can be seen left and lower right, spreading out in successive layers, with snow falling into the morning sunlight. A small Pileus cap is above the middle tower.
