- A small almond shaped wave cloud forms in the crest of a standing wave to the lee of the Rockies. The “fish” has a stationary lens-shaped water portion composed of stacked wafers, plus a long, shaded ice crystal tail at right. Air condenses and evaporates as it travels through the crest. The ice crystals that form do not evaporate (sublimate) and carry on past the cloud. This is a rare manifestation of an isolated, small wave cloud in clear sky.
